Cambridge Additional Mathematics encourages students to build competence, confidence and fluency in the use of mathematical techniques and understanding. This course helps students develop a sense of numbers, patterns and relationships. Students will develop their thinking, problem solving and analysis skills in a variety of contexts.
It provides a solid foundation of mathematical knowledge to applicants studying advanced mathematics and those who need mathematics to support skills in other subjects.

Complementary mathematics is a mathematical qualification usually taken by high school students (as participants in the GCSE in the United Kingdom). Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics is for students who want to improve and refine in mathematics - usually students who are likely to achieve grades A * to B in Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics as an equivalent. It is only available at a high level and applies to classes A * to E.
It enables students to extend the mathematical skills, knowledge and understanding developed in the Cambridge IGCSE mathematics course and to apply this skill in the context of more advanced techniques. The content of the syllabus focuses on pure mathematics, which provides students with an excellent foundation for mathematics at level A, Cambridge Pre-U and beyond. Knowledge of the content of Cambridge supplementary mathematics as equivalent, as assumed.
